How to use TextTasker

RemindersText what and when

Tell TextTasker what to remind you about and when. It confirms the date and time so you know it got it right.

More things you can say

• Repeating: "Take my vitamins every day at 8am", "Trash goes out every Tuesday night", "Pay rent on the 1st of every month"
• Appointments: "Dentist Friday at 3pm". You'll get a reminder 1 hour before.
• Deadlines: "Report due Friday" or "Car registration due Nov 30". You'll get a reminder that morning.
• The night before: "Remind me the day before the field trip on the 22nd"
• Photos: text a picture of an appointment card, a flyer or a schedule, and TextTasker reads the dates for you.
• No time given: it picks a sensible one. Something for later today comes a few hours from now; another day comes at 8 AM. See Times & settings.
• No AM or PM: "at 7" or "1100" means the next time that hour comes around (on a day you name, the first one that day). If that would be between midnight and 6:00 AM, it's the PM one instead. So "take the dogs out at 1100" sent at 10:45 PM is 11:00 PM tonight, "flight Friday at 7" is 7:00 AM Friday, and "call at 3" sent at 4 PM is 3:00 PM tomorrow.
• Overnight: TextTasker won't set a reminder between midnight and 6:00 AM unless you ask for that time yourself, with AM, like "wake me at 5am".

See, change or cancel

• LIST shows everything coming up.
• Just say it: "Move the dentist reminder to 4pm" or "Cancel the vitamins reminder".

When a reminder arrivesReply SNOOZE if you need more time

• Nothing to reply once it's handled. A reminder counts as done once it's sent.
• SNOOZE pushes it 30 minutes. You can also say "snooze 1 hour" or "snooze until tomorrow morning".
• Snoozing a repeating reminder only moves this one; the next one still comes on schedule.

To-do listsStart a text with "to-do"

Get the list out of your head. TextTasker texts it back to you as a numbered checklist.

Your day

• 8 AM: your whole list, numbered.
• 1 PM: a quick check-in, only if something's still open.
• 6 PM: a recap of what's left. No recap if you've checked everything off.
• Times in an item: "call court at 10am" or "report by 5pm" gets its own text 15 minutes before. It isn't sent if you've already checked it off.
• Midnight: anything not done moves to the top of the next day's list.

Which day

• Before 6 PM, a new list is for today; after 6 PM, it's for tomorrow.
• "To-do tomorrow: …" or "To-do today: …" picks the day yourself.
• Texting late at night? Between midnight and 3:30 AM, "tomorrow" means the day that just started, the morning you'll wake up to.

A day's list holds up to 40 words, carried-over items included.

Families & teamsRemind each other

On the Family or Team plan, you can set reminders for the people in your group. Everyone joins from their own phone.

Start a group

• Text FAMILY (up to 4 people) or TEAM (up to 10). TextTasker asks your name, then sends you an invite to forward.
• Each person texts JOIN and the code from the invite, like "JOIN FAM-K7M2QX", to (213) 786-3070, then tells it their name.

Set a reminder for someone

• Jake's text says who it's from: "TextTasker reminder from Dad: Take out the trash. Reply DONE when finished, or SNOOZE to push it 30 min."
• When he replies DONE, you get a note that he finished. Text ALERTS OFF to stop those notes, or ALERTS ON to turn them back on.

Times & settingsMake it fit your day

When you don't give a time, TextTasker uses these defaults. Text DEFAULTS to see yours.

• Overnight: no reminders between midnight and 6:00 AM unless you give that exact time with AM ("5:30am"). An early appointment, like a 7 AM flight, is reminded the evening before instead.
• Time zone: text TIMEZONE to see yours. Traveling? Text "TIMEZONE Denver" or any city.
• Reset: "Reset my defaults" puts everything back.

Quick referenceAll commands

Capital letters aren't required. "done", "Done" and "DONE" all work.
